About

My name is Kayla Bates

I started walking dogs in 2018 as a "hobby sitter" and have slowly added credentials and knowledge to become a Certified Professional Pet Sitter through Pet Sitters International. I blend motherhood with pet sitting, often bringing my toddler to visits.

As a child I always loved animals, wanting to grow up to be a farmer. I went to college to major in Accounting with a minor in Equine Science, and was working at an accounting firm in St. Louis.  But when complications arose in my pregnancy with my third child, I pivoted to being a stay at home mother.  In 2018 I started walking dogs on the Rover platform while my kids were in school. I quickly came to realize that I found my place, and have been striving since then to grow and learn to be a professional dog walker and pet sitter.

Insured and bonded through Business Insurers of the Carolinas.

Background checked through Acutraq.

Member of Pet Sitters International.

Our current household includes 3 dogs, 1 cat and a flock of ducks.  I've got to be the proud guardians of a horse, gerbils, guinea pigs, fish, and a parakeet.

I also enjoy gardening, using native plants to attract wildlife.  We frequently have possum and raccoons come check to see if we forgot to put the duck food away. Sparrows, Cardinals, Robins, Bluebirds, Crows and Cowbirds frequently visit.  I'm still trying to earn the trust of the crows to start trading with them. Occasionally an owl or fox will stop in.  Our local hawk pair leave us alone, but their offspring visit us every year to size up if they are capable of snatching a duck. It's always a fun surprise when we find a snake, turtle or lizard in the garden. Chipmunks and squirrels hang out, and we found out in 2020 that our neighborhood had a white squirrel.  It's managed to pass it's genetics on, and we have a handful of white squirrels each summer visiting us.  As my garden grows, it's fun to see what new insects arrive each year.
